Civics (8th grade) is the study of rights and duties of citizens. In order to understand our role, we begin with defining citizenship and analyzing different forms and systems of government. This brings us to our country's early years and how we evolved into three branches of government, each with its own specific role as defined by the Constitution. We explore the levels of government, how we can participate in our government, and the difference between civil and criminal law. Through a variety of engagement strategies, short video clips, interactive videos, guided reading, note-taking, scenarios, independent work, thinking maps, and graphic organizers, students will cement their understanding of Civics.
