What is the district doing with the money being saved due to teacher shortages? Can that be used to pay existing teachers more?
While it’s true that the teacher shortage may create a pocket of unused funds, it would only be a fraction of what’s needed to provide compensation needed for Nassau schools to become competitive with other districts. Additional money saved is also helping the district staff open classes with long-term substitutes and online instruction, which is not a comparable learning experience to an experienced teacher in the classroom.
