Nassau County School District is proud to celebrate two Yulee Middle School educators whose innovative work has been recognized on the state stage. Art teacher Michelle Perry and journalism teacher Andrea Miles were recently featured in Fresh Paint, the official statewide publication of the Florida Art Education Association (FAEA).
Their collaborative project, Resiliency: Art & Literature Book, brings together student artwork and writing to highlight the creativity, strength, and voices of Yulee Middle School students. The collection is a unique fusion of visual and written expression—demonstrating how art and storytelling can empower students to share their perspectives and experiences.
The feature in Fresh Paint shines a spotlight not only on Ms. Perry and Ms. Miles but also on the remarkable students who contributed to the project. The publication, distributed across Florida, showcases exemplary practices in arts education and underscores the important role of creative learning in schools.
This week is National Arts in Education Week, a time to celebrate how the arts contribute to academic success, creativity, and student well-being. In Nassau County, arts education is made possible in part through funding from the voter-approved One Mill, which helps provide resources, supplies, and opportunities for students to thrive in the arts.
The full feature can be viewed in the Fall 2025 edition of Fresh Paint. Read the magazine here.
