On the left, a blue background features the large headline "Bus Tracking Made Easy" with a green banner reading "Get Ready for the First Day!" Below are three illustrated icons with reminders to update your email in FOCUS, use the Here Comes the Bus app, and be at your bus stop on time. On the right, a yellow school bus is parked along a neighborhood street while a hand holds a smartphone displaying the Here Comes the Bus app with a notification that the bus is near the stop. Get Ready for the First Day: Make Sure You're Ready to Track Your Child's Bus

As the first day of school approaches, now is the perfect time to make sure you're ready to track your child's school bus. Nassau County School District uses Here Comes the Bus (HCTB) to help families know when the bus is approaching their stop, making busy school mornings a little easier.

Follow these 3 simple steps before the first day of school.

Step 1: Set Up Here Comes the Bus

Families should continue using Here Comes the Bus at the start of the school year.
To create your account, you'll need:

  • Your child's student ID number

  • Nassau County School District school code: 76491

Once you're signed up, you can:

  • Track your child's bus in real-time.

  • Receive email or push notifications when the bus is approaching your stop.

  • View bus locations from your smartphone, tablet, or computer.

Step 2: Make Sure Your Student Is Assigned Correctly

If your student or bus does not appear in Here Comes the Bus, the most common reason is that the student is not assigned to the correct bus or bus stop.
Please verify that:

  • Your student's home address on file is correct.

  • Your student is assigned to their designated bus stop.

  • Your student rides their assigned bus.

If your information appears incorrect, contact Transportation for assistance:
Westside Schools: Kathy Gammons
Eastside Schools: Evelyn McKie

If your routing information is correct and the app still isn't working, you may need to contact Here Comes the Bus Support through the app.

Step 3: Arrive at the Bus Stop Early

While Here Comes the Bus is a helpful tool, it should not replace arriving at your assigned bus stop on time.

Please plan to arrive at your stop a few minutes early, especially during the first week of school. Routes often take a little longer as our newest riders learn their routines and everyone settles into the school year.

Looking Ahead

Later this school year, Nassau County School District will transition to StopFinder, a more secure way for families to receive bus information. Additional details and setup instructions will be shared well in advance of the transition.

For now, the most important things you can do are:

  • Update your primary email address in FOCUS if needed.

  • Set up or verify your Here Comes the Bus account.

  • Be at your bus stop a few minutes early during the first week of school.

Thank you for helping us ensure a safe and successful start to the school year!
