Fernandina Beach, FL — Fernandina Beach Middle School (FBMS) has been named a recipient of the MTSS Recognized Schools Award by the Florida Department of Education, marking a significant milestone in the school’s efforts to support student growth and academic achievement through its Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS).

This prestigious recognition is awarded only to schools that meet rigorous criteria in both student growth and MTSS implementation. To earn the MTSS Recognized Schools Award, FBMS demonstrated:

  • At least a 10% improvement in student learning gains in English Language Arts (ELA) from the previous year, and

  • A minimum of 60% of the school’s lowest-performing 25% of students in ELA showing learning gains.

In addition to these academic benchmarks, FBMS successfully completed a comprehensive application process that included the Interest Survey, the Self-Assessment of MTSS Implementation (SAM), and the Year-in-Review Survey.

FBMS joins a select group of schools across Florida recognized for using data-driven interventions, schoolwide collaboration, and tiered supports to improve outcomes for all learners. As part of the celebration, the school received a digital certificate and badge from the state and is now eligible to apply for next year’s expanded recognition program.
