Hilliard Elementary School kindergarten students spent the week learning about the significance of Presidents Day and the role of the President of the United States. Students explored a virtual tour of the White House, practiced the steps of the voting process, and cast their own ballots. Some classes voted for their favorite book character, Duck or Farmer, while others voted for their preferred cookie. This engaging, hands-on experience helped students build an early understanding of citizenship and decision-making in a fun and meaningful way.

Hilliard Elementary School kindergarten students explored life in the Arctic through a hands-on science lesson about how blubber helps animals stay warm in cold environments.

Students examined a model demonstrating insulation by placing their hands into a “blubber glove” to feel how the protective layer helps retain heat. This interactive experience supported early science learning by helping students connect concepts like temperature, adaptation, and animal habitats in a meaningful way.

Students practiced real-world skills by reading menus, completing guest checks, adding totals, and using money manipulatives to pay volunteers, all while exploring what daily life was like in the 1950s. Teachers also extended their reading unit by connecting learning to primary sources and historical context.

It was an engaging and memorable day filled with hands-on learning and smiles.
