Friday, August 21 is National Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day.

One conversation could save a life.
Fentanyl is one of the most dangerous drugs facing our communities today. It is often hidden in counterfeit pills or mixed into counterfeit prescription medications without a person's knowledge. As this powerful video explains, one mistake can have permanent consequences.
This National Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day, we encourage every parent, caregiver, and student to take just a few minutes to watch this important message together and explore the free resources available for Nassau County families.

🎥 Watch the video: https://player.vimeo.com/video/925904443?h=12e0a90225

📚 Access the Family Resources on our website.
The Family Resources include:
• A Fentanyl Fact Sheet
• Parent Conversation Toolkit
• Student Online Learning Opportunity (earn 1.5 community service hours)
• Additional videos and educational resources

After watching the video, ask your child:
• What did you learn?
• Did anything surprise you?
• What would you do if someone offered you a pill that wasn't prescribed to you?
• Who are the trusted adults you can always talk to?

A few minutes of learning today could make a life-changing difference tomorrow.
Know the facts. Start the conversation. Protect your future.

Congratulations to Paul & Brenda Schwend, West Nassau High School graduates and owners of Schwend Insurance Agency Inc.

When asked what advice he has for today's students, Paul emphasized the importance of setting clear goals, writing them down, and staying focused on them. He noted that having defined goals helps students avoid distractions and peer pressure that don't align with their path. He also highlighted the value of faith and maintaining gratitude for the community they come from.
When asked what has been most valuable from his experience as a Nassau County School District graduate, Paul said it was the lifelong friendships and sense of family. He is still in contact with his friends, coaches, and teachers today.
