Because this is a renewal of the existing one-mill operating funding, it will not increase the current millage rate. The One Mill Renewal would continue the existing one-mill operating millage. It does not propose an increase to the current one-mill rate. Here is what that looks like in practice based on a home's taxable value:
Taxable Value / Annual Cost (1 Mill) / Approx. Cost per Day
$100,000 / $100 / $0.27
$250,000 / $250 / $0.68
$300,000 / $300 / $0.82
$500,000 / $500 / $1.37
$750,000 / $750 / $2.05

No. This is not a new tax. It is a renewal of the existing one-mill operating millage that Nassau County property owners are already paying. A “YES” vote would continue the existing one-mill operating millage for four years without increasing the millage rate.

The Millage Referendum is a ballot renewal that allows local voters to invest directly in the daily operations of Nassau County schools. Because basic funding from the state legislature is inadequate to cover standard operating expenses, local school districts face severe budget constraints. Renewing this existing voter-approved millage fills these critical financial gaps. By securing these local funds, we protect our classrooms from budget shortfalls, allowing the district to keep the focus entirely on student success, providing competitive teacher and staff pay, continuing to improve safety, art teachers in every elementary school, and supporting athletics district-wide.

Be in school. Be on time. All day. Every day.
Missing just 2 days each month can add up to about 10% of the school year. Help your child make every school day count by building strong attendance habits all year long.
When students are in class, on time and ready to learn, they have more opportunities to build skills, connect with teachers and classmates, and stay on track for success.

🍎✨ Apple Day Fun in First Grade! ✨🍎
Our first grade Little Warriors had a bushel of fun while learning all about apples! 🍏🍎
➖ We practiced subtraction with apple-themed math problems, 🌳 explored the life cycle of an apple tree, and became little chefs as we made our very own applesauce! 🥄👩🍳
👀👃👂✋👅 We also put our five senses to work as we tasted and described apple slices using sensory words like sweet, crunchy, juicy, smooth, and sour!
What a fun way to bring learning to life through hands-on exploration, teamwork, and discovery! ❤️💛
🍏✨ Learning is always a little sweeter with some apple magic! ✨🍎

🎨✨ Our Little Warriors are creating, exploring, and bringing their ideas to life! ✨🎨
The art room is buzzing with creativity as our young artists get hands-on with drawing techniques, painting, and screen printing! 🖌️🖼️
Students are exploring color, composition, texture, and creativity as they learn how artists use different techniques and materials to turn their ideas into works of art.
🎨 Through painting, our artists are experimenting with mixing colors, creating different brushstrokes, and expressing themselves through vibrant artwork.
🖨️ In screen printing, students are learning the exciting process of creating designs, preparing screens, applying ink, and making their very own prints!
✨ These experiences encourage our Little Warriors to problem-solve, think creatively, express themselves, and learn from the artistic process. And sometimes, that process includes a few messy hands along the way! 😉
🎭 Happy National Arts in Education Week! 🎨

Remembering, Honoring & Thanking Our Heroes
Today at Callahan Elementary, our Little Warriors took time to remember and honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and to recognize the heroes who stepped up with courage, compassion, and selflessness.
Our school community shared a special moment of silence as we reflected on those who lost their lives and the many individuals who demonstrated extraordinary bravery during and after that day.
❤️ Every classroom participated in age-appropriate activities to help students learn, reflect, and honor the significance of September 11th. Students created American flag crafts, learned about heroes and acts of courage, and found meaningful ways to express their gratitude for those who serve our communities.
Our first grade Little Warriors took their appreciation a step further by writing heartfelt thank-you notes to our local firefighters. Their notes were delivered to our local fire station as a small but meaningful gesture of gratitude for the heroes who continue to serve and protect our community. 🚒❤️
We are so proud of our Little Warriors for learning that remembering history also means recognizing the courage, service, and kindness that continue to make a difference in our community.
We remember. We honor. We are grateful.

📚✨ Learning doesn’t always have to happen at our desks! ✨📚
Our warriors are learning through collaboration, movement, and teamwork! 💪🧠
➗ During whole-group math, students work together to solve problems, compare answers, find mistakes, and check their work for accuracy. We love seeing them explain their thinking and learn from one another!
🔤 During phonics, students get to choose their own “phonics spot” around the room to complete their work. This gives them a little movement, choice, and the opportunity to learn in a space that works best for them!
We’re building independent, confident, and collaborative learners—one problem, one sound, and one phonics spot at a time!
