Ms. Cross’s class has been hard at work this past month learning all about U.S. Presidents! After exploring their leadership and impact on our country, students chose to focus on George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, or Barack Obama.

Each student wrote about their chosen president and then stepped up to present their work, practicing their public speaking skills as part of their speaking and listening standards. 🎤

To celebrate their effort and courage in presenting, every student earned a medal! 🏅 We are so proud of the confidence, research, and dedication they showed throughout this project. Great job, Ms. Cross’s class!

🌦️📚 Kindergarten students in Ms. Gilman, Ms. Flick, Ms. Long, and Ms. Rowell’s classes had the exciting opportunity to meet with a meteorologist and learn all about different weather conditions and how we can stay prepared and safe.

A special thank you to Lee Southwick from First Coast News for taking the time to visit our students and share her knowledge about weather and forecasting.

This special learning experience helped students make meaningful connections to what they have been studying during their weather unit. From learning about storms to understanding how meteorologists track and predict weather, students asked thoughtful questions and enjoyed hearing from a real weather expert.

Experiences like this help bring classroom learning to life and make learning even more memorable! ☀️⛈️💨

📚✨ Our Trailblazers at Wildlight Elementary had an incredible experience thanks to the Amelia Island Book Festival!

We were thrilled to welcome authors Bethany Gano and Eugenia Chu, who spent time with our 2nd through 5th grade students sharing their stories, creativity, and love of reading. Opportunities like this allow our students to see the magic behind books and hear firsthand what it’s like to be an author.

A big shoutout to Mrs. Bozeman, our amazing librarian, for organizing this wonderful event and making it such a memorable experience for our Trailblazers. Your hard work helped create a day filled with inspiration, imagination, and a deeper love for reading.

Thank you again to the Amelia Island Book Festival and our visiting authors for helping make this special experience possible for our students! 📖💙

Wildlight Elementary School's 5th-grade students in Mrs. Ballard & Mrs. Butcher's art classes are making ceramic Tic-Tac-Toe boards! Students learned skills such as scoring & slipping to help them build their boards. Using tools & techniques, the students attached clay coils to a slab base. After being fired in the kiln, the students then chose different glazes to add color to their pieces. Boards were fired a second time to achieve a shiny, smooth topcoat. Students will also glaze shaped pieces for gameplay.

We are grateful for the mileage in giving us the chance to introduce and explore pottery at our elementary schools!

Wildlight Elementary School classes wrapped up their unit on electricity in the most hands-on way — by designing and building their very own circuits.

Students put their learning into action as they explored how energy flows, tested connections, troubleshot designs, and celebrated those “aha” moments when their circuits successfully lit up. The teamwork, problem-solving, and perseverance on display were truly impressive.

We love seeing our young scientists and future engineers shine. Take a look at the photos to see their bright ideas in action.
