Staff of the Month!
Mrs. Goddard excels in her role as Literacy Coach at Yulee Elementary. She is constantly in classrooms supporting our teachers and students. She is a wealth of knowledge and continually provides professional learning opportunities for our staff on campus. She coordinates and plans for our after school tutoring program and is always willing to jump in and help where ever there is a need.

Mrs. Bannister eagerly leads our TV production program at YES. She coordinates the students and helps teach them valuable life skills through the school news platform. She also supports our PBIS program by helping with our positive Bus Bucks rewards and she spends her after school time dedicated to supervising our "Little Stingers" after school program.

Thank you ladies for your unwavering responsibility and dedication to Yulee Elementary!

🎃🧪 Jack-o’-Lantern Float Science Lab! 🧡
Mrs. Szubelak's and Mrs. Martyn's 3rd graders had a spooktacular time last week collaborating together turning science into a sweet treat! Students explored states of matter as they created their very own Jack-o’-Lantern Floats using ice cream and orange Fanta. They observed solids, liquids, and gases in action — and learned how melting and fizzing create chemical and physical changes! 🍦🥤

Hands-on learning never tasted so good! 👩‍🔬👨‍🔬

Have a mystery to solve? Have no fear! Mrs. Jones and her classroom of detectives are on the case! Here is a glimpse of a fun, hands-on classroom activity centered around Chasing Vermeer by Blue Balliett that got Mrs. Jones fifth graders thinking critically, collaborating and engaging with the text.

Students in Ms. Pouncey's 5th grade ELA class are reading Chasing Vermeer, a mystery novel that uses Pentominoes throughout the story as an important clue-solving tool for the main characters. In the book, the main character often uses Pentomino shapes to think through problems and uncover hidden connections. To connect with the story, they practiced using their own Pentomino shapes in class to create different words and patterns, helping them understand how these puzzles can encourage creative thinking and problem-solving—just like they do in the book.

Mrs. Martyn's 3rd grade class conducted a fun and hands-on Pumpkin Investigation to explore the properties of matter using real pumpkins. Students worked like scientists—making predictions and recording actual measurements for their pumpkin’s height, width, mass, and density. They observed and described the color, texture, and odor. They then determined whether the pumpkin would sink or float and identified its state of matter. Finally, students guessed how many seeds were inside before counting them to find the real number. The activity encouraged observation, comparison, and critical thinking while connecting fall fun with science learning.

Students in Mrs. Dickinson's and Mrs. McCormick's classes had an exciting and hands-on Science experience as they continued exploring all about matter! Students investigated everyday objects: a ball, paper clip, and pencil eraser to examine their properties. Working together in teams, they discussed and recorded observations about each object, just like scientists!

Using balances, students measured the mass, tested for magnetism using magnets, and observed whether the objects would sink or float in water. Our scientists also compared temperatures by testing three different water samples: room temperature water, water that had been sitting outside, and chilled water from the fridge.

Just like real scientists, students asked questions, made predictions, and used tools to measure and observe matter. It was an engaging Fun Science Experience full of discovery, teamwork, and applying science skills in meaningful ways!
