Eighth-grade students at Hilliard Middle-Senior High School are bringing science to life through hands-on learning in Mrs. Russell’s classroom.

During a Root Beer Float Lab, students explored the three states of matter: solids, liquids and gases. As they created their floats, students observed how each state of matter differs in shape and volume and connected classroom concepts to a familiar, real-world experience.

Hands-on lessons like this give Nassau County School District students opportunities to investigate, observe and apply what they are learning. And sometimes, the experiment comes with a pretty sweet ending!

The Millage Referendum is a ballot renewal that allows local voters to invest directly in the daily operations of Nassau County schools. Because basic funding from the state legislature is inadequate to cover standard operating expenses, local school districts face severe budget constraints. Renewing this existing voter-approved millage fills these critical financial gaps. By securing these local funds, we protect our classrooms from budget shortfalls, allowing the district to keep the focus entirely on student success, providing competitive teacher and staff pay, continuing to improve safety, art teachers in every elementary school, and supporting athletics district-wide.
