🦷✨ Smiles in Kindergarten! ✨🦷

Ms. Head’s kindergarten class had a special visit from Dr. Porter of Lofton Creek Smiles! Our little learners discovered all about dental hygiene — from proper brushing techniques to the importance of keeping those smiles healthy and bright. 😁

Thank you, Dr. Porter, for taking the time to teach our students such important lifelong habits. We love partnering with our local community helpers! 💙

💙✨ Kindness in Action in 2nd Grade! ✨💙

Our amazing 2nd graders in Ms. Cacciapouti’s class have been spreading kindness all around campus! Students began by writing thoughtful words to describe one another inside a heart — filling our classroom with positivity and encouragement. 💗

Then, they took their kindness beyond the classroom by completing random acts of kindness throughout the school! They:
• Helped Pre-K students pack up
• Read with 1st graders
• Assisted Ms. Hicks in the library
• Picked up trash on the playground
• Supported Ms. Johns and Ms. Trammell with their kindergarteners
• Helped Ms. Whedon with her instruments

To top it off, each student reflected in writing about how their act of kindness made them feel — and the responses were heartwarming! 💙

We are so proud of these thoughtful leaders who are learning that even small acts can make a BIG difference. 💫

This morning, Southside Elementary was visited by two authors as part of the Amelia Island Book Festival's Authors In Schools Program. Author Eileen Meyer shared her book "Build a Sandcastle" with our KIndergarten students and Author Sophia Gholz shared her book "Bear At The Fair" with our 1st Grade students and her book "Bug On The Rug" with our 2nd Grade students. Each student will receive a copy of the book to share with their family. Thanks so much to the Amelia Island Book Festival for supporting our Li'l Pirate readers!

Yesterday we celebrated our amazing SES Bus Drivers! 🚌💛

We surprised them with morning snacks and heartfelt thank-you notes to show just how much we appreciate everything they do. Rain or shine, early mornings and long afternoons — they always put our students first and ensure they arrive to and from school safely each and every day.

Our bus drivers are often the first smiling faces our students see in the morning and the last caring goodbye in the afternoon. Their patience, dedication, and commitment do not go unnoticed!

Thank you for being such an important part of the SES family. We appreciate you more than words can say! 💙✨

Whether it’s remediation or enrichment, we are committed to meeting students where they are and helping them grow. Every student deserves a seat at the table — and at our school, every Little Pirate matters! 💙🏴‍☠️

✏️✨ Kindergarten Authors at Work! ✨✏️

Ms. Head’s kindergarten students have been hard at work strengthening their handwriting skills and writing complete sentences about their stories this week! 📝📚

From carefully forming each letter to stretching out words and adding details, these young writers are building strong foundations one sentence at a time. We are so proud of their focus, creativity, and growing confidence as authors! 💛

Keep shining, Kindergarten! 🌟

Parents,

We are so grateful to all the families who have already signed up and donated to Kids Heart Challenge 2026. Did you know that a percentage of the money raised goes towards buying new PE equipment for all the students at Southside? Also, by signing your student up, just for the free bracelet, it will help their teacher earn a $25 Amazon gift card. If at least 3 students in the class complete Finn's Mission, their teacher will earn another $25 gift card. Please help our school and your student's teacher complete our mission in reaching our goal of $9.000!! Right now, we have just over $6,000, which is wonderful! We have 13 days left in our mission to reach our goal! Last year we raised over $13,000 which was our best year yet!! Let's see if we can beat that goal! Thank you for all that you do in supporting your student.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Trammell

Southside Elementary School second-grade students are mastering money skills through a fun, engaging, hands-on math activity.

Students created custom ice cream sundaes, then calculated costs, paid for each item, and built their own combinations using coins. This real-world learning experience helped students practice counting money, addition, and decision-making in a meaningful and memorable way.

Learning truly has never been sweeter.

Southside Elementary School's Pre-K students had a rockin' good time exploring music through hands-on learning. Students welcomed a special guest, Mr. Leary, who shared his collection of instruments, demonstrated how they work, and invited students to create music of their own, including experimenting with a didgeridoo.

The classroom was filled with curiosity, creativity, and joyful expression as students learned through sound, rhythm, and movement. Experiences like this support early learning by encouraging exploration, collaboration, and self-expression through the arts.
