✨ A Wonderful Weekend at the Shrimp Festival! 🦐

A couple weekends ago, our community came together for the annual Shrimp Festival, kicking things off with Thursday’s parade and continuing through an exciting schedule of festivities, and Yulee Middle School was proud to be a part of it every step of the way!

We would like to extend a special congratulations to sixth-grade student Poppy Buckalew, a student of Michelle Perry, for being selected by Dr. Middleton as this year’s Principal’s Award recipient. What an incredible honor and well-deserved recognition! 👏

Throughout the festival, YMS students were also represented in parade displays, sculptures, and exhibits, showcasing the amazing artistic abilities of Nassau County students for the entire community to enjoy. Of course, none of this would be possible without the extra funds generated by the millage. So, in case we don't say it enough... THANK YOU for supporting the arts at YMS.

Another heartfelt thank you to Ashley DeMaio Rice and Michelle Perry for their dedication in supporting our students and helping bring these opportunities to life.

💙 Events like this truly show the power of the village at work in Nassau County schools... It's Nicer in Nassau!

We just wanted to take a moment to say how incredibly grateful we are for the amazing volunteers who have gone above and beyond to make this week so special for our teachers and staff. From thoughtful touches to delicious treats, they have truly helped create moments that warm hearts and fill bellies!

Our teachers and staff pour so much into our students every single day... giving their time, energy, and passion all year long. This week is just a small way for us to pause and make sure they feel the appreciation they so deeply deserve.

🎨 Creativity in Action! 🎨

Our students have been hard at work exploring color schemes through painting, and the results have been incredible to see! Through this project, students are learning how colors work together, how to plan their designs, and how to express their ideas visually.

Beyond the artwork itself, these lessons help build creativity, focus, and confidence... skills that extend far beyond the classroom. We are so proud of the effort, thought, and care our students are putting into their work.

Shout to these students and art teachers for continuing to make learning engaging and meaningful! 💙🎨

🌧️💛 Above and Beyond for Our Students 💛🌧️

At Yulee Middle School, our teachers don’t just show up, they step up, no matter what the day (or the weather!) brings.

During her morning bus supervision duty, Mrs. Murray helps ensure students walking from Yulee High School to Yulee Middle School arrive safely as buses pull in each morning. A few weeks ago, Mother Nature decided to make that job even more challenging with heavy rain and strong winds.

Instead of letting the weather slow her down, Mrs. Murray grabbed her big umbrella and personally escorted students as they crossed, making sure they arrived safe, dry, and ready to learn. ☔👏

We are always grateful for Mrs. Murray’s dedication to student safety, but on this rainy morning, she went the extra mile to keep our students dry too. The smiles and appreciation from students said it all.

Just one of the MANY ways the incredible staff at YMS and YHS put students first—every single day. 🐝💛

🎤🐝 Hornets Got Talent! 🐝🎤

Yulee Middle School was thrilled to bring back our talent show, "Hornets Got Talent!" Hosted by the amazing Mrs. Loomis, this show showcased the hard work, courage, and creativity of our students during a daytime performance for their peers and an evening show for families.

Our students did an outstanding job preparing and delivering an unforgettable performance, but what stood out just as much was their sportsmanship and kindness. While waiting for the winners to be announced, students could be heard cheering one another on and saying, “We’re all friends no matter who wins, we all did great!” It was truly heartwarming to witness.

👏 Congratulations to our winners:

⭐ Fan Favorite Award: RJ, who wowed the crowd with amazing country singing
🥈 Second Place: Lillian, who blew us away with a beautiful acappella performance
🥇 First Place: Cora, who took home the top prize with a powerful cover from Moana... that final note was unforgettable!

We are so proud of all our students for their hard work, bravery, and incredible talent. This show reminded us just how special our Hornet community is—and we already can’t wait to do it again next year! 💚💛

☀️🎨 Fresh Air, Creativity, and YMS Pride! 🎨☀️

We are excited to share our new YMS‑themed picnic tables, recently placed around campus to give students a flexible, outdoor space to learn and create. From art projects to collaborative work, our students are loving the chance to enjoy the Florida sunshine while learning in a new setting!

These beautiful improvements, along with many others across our campus, are possible because of the One Mill referendum approved by our community. We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our voters for investing in spaces that enhance learning, creativity, and student well‑being.

Your support is making a visible difference, and our students are truly benefiting from it every day! 💛🖤

💜 Wear Purple on April 15 💜

In honor of military children

On April 15, our school will be participating in Purple Up Day to recognize and celebrate the incredible strength, resilience, and sacrifices of military-connected students and families.

Wearing purple represents the unity of all branches of the military and reminds us that behind every service member is a family supporting them every step of the way. We are proud to stand together to show appreciation for those who serve—and the children and families who serve right alongside them.

Students and staff are encouraged to wear purple as a visible show of support and gratitude. Let’s fill our campus with purple and pride! 💜🇺🇸

🎨 Celebrating the Creativity at Yulee Middle School! 🎨

Even though March was Youth Art Month, we couldn’t let these incredible creations go unshared! Our YMS artists have been busy bringing imagination to life, and we are so proud of the talent, effort, and creativity happening in our art classrooms.

From clay sculptures (Patrick and Plankton made an appearance! 😄), to pencil drawings and paintings, to students sharpening their inner Rembrandt through digital drawing apps using tools similar to those used by professional animators, our students are exploring art in powerful and exciting ways.

Programs like this are possible because of the continued support of our community. Thanks to the One Mill funding approved by Nassau County residents, our students have access to high-quality materials, technology, and opportunities that allow their creativity to flourish. We are incredibly grateful for that investment in our children and our schools.

We’re excited to spotlight some of our favorite student artwork and share a glimpse of the beautiful creations happening every day at YMS. Take a look and enjoy! 🖌️✨
