We’re thrilled to share that our next Pop‑Up Museum experience is on the way to YMS — “The Science of Shipwrecks”! This interactive exhibit brings history, science, and exploration to life for our students in a hands‑on, unforgettable way.
Once the display is set up next week, classes will be able to sign up for an immersive museum-style visit right here on campus. Teachers will also have access to content-aligned activities to help students dive deeper into the world of maritime archaeology.
💻 Try Our New Interactive Game!
Students and staff can also explore a brand‑new digital activity connected to the exhibit, a memory and matching game featuring real artifacts recovered from a shipwreck. Players will compare items as they were found underwater with how they look after conservation. The game can be played multiple times and our school has been invited to share feedback!
👉 Try it out here: https://interacty.me/projects/79009aabad90858e
We can’t wait to see our students engage with this unique blend of science, history, and discovery. Stay tuned for more details and photos once the exhibit arrives!

We are beyond proud of Mrs. Mitchell, one of YMS’ finest math teachers and an all-around amazing human! Recently, she applied for a $10,000 grant through the Nassau Education Foundation and advanced to the final round, competing against incredible educators from across the district.
And guess what? She didn’t just compete—she won the $10,000 grant to bring her vision to life: ClassVR! With Virtual Reality headsets, Mrs. Mitchell will make Algebra come alive like never before.
Imagine this:
🏀 Solving parabolas on a basketball court.
🌳 Designing a treehouse with an awesome slide to explore slope-intercept form.
Her presentation wowed the audience, and she even walked away with the People’s Choice Award! 🙌
A huge congratulations to all the finalists who presented their amazing ideas to the Nassau County “Sharks.” Thanks to their generosity, every finalist received funding for their projects. The energy in the room was inspiring—proof that it’s truly nicer in Nassau!
Join us in celebrating Mrs. Mitchell and her incredible achievement. We can’t wait to see how this innovative idea transforms learning and makes Algebra engaging and fun for our students! 💡📚
