9/11 Heroes Day: Together We Remember

Today, our school stands united in remembrance.

We honor the brave first responders, the everyday heroes, and the lives lost on September 11, 2001. Their courage reminds us of the strength found in unity, compassion, and service.

As educators, students, and families, we reflect together—not just on history, but on the values that make us stronger as one community.

🕊️ We remember. We stand together. We move forward with purpose.

🌟 Heroes Among Us at YMS 🌟

A little while ago we witnessed something truly remarkable. When a student experienced a sudden and scary allergic reaction, our incredible Ms. Luna and Ms. Morgan sprang into action with calm, swift precision. Thanks to their quick thinking and the rapid response of Nassau’s outstanding EMS Team, the situation was handled with care and expertise.

Because of their efforts, our student—known for her cheerful personality—was back in class the very next day, laughing and learning with her friends. 💛
Moments like these remind us how lucky we are to have such dedicated professionals in our school and community. As parents, we know it can be stressful sending your child to school—but knowing we have people like Ms. Luna, Ms. Morgan, and our EMS partners looking out for every child makes all the difference.

👏 Big shout-outs to these everyday heroes. Thank you for your courage, compassion, and commitment to keeping our students safe.

3 Myths about Applying for Free & Reduced Lunch — and the real facts you need to know!

Myth #1: “I was approved last year.”
✔️Reality: Each year, all individuals are required to submit a new application, even if they were approved in previous years.

Myth #2: “The application is too complicated.”
✔️ Reality: The application is quick, confidential, and available online. Most families complete it in under 10 minutes. Plus, schools and Food & Nutrition Services teams are available to help if you need support.

Myth #3: “It doesn’t matter, I’ll just pack my child’s lunch.”
✔️ Reality: Even if your child brings lunch from home, qualifying for Free & Reduced Lunch can still help your family. Students can get a healthy breakfast or lunch at school on busy days, during testing, or when plans change.

📣 Friendly Reminder for Our YMS Families 🐝

As we continue to support our YHS Hornets on the field and in the stands, we want to ensure all students enjoy a safe and positive experience at sporting events.

Any YMS student attending a YHS game must be accompanied by an adult. Students who arrive without an adult will not be permitted to enter.

We appreciate your partnership in helping us maintain a safe and respectful environment for all attendees. Thank you for your continued support of our schools and student athletes!

🧪🔍 Science in Action with Ms. Randall’s 7th Graders! 🔍🧪

Today, our 7th grade scientists put their engineering and communication skills to the test in a hands-on challenge that was both brainy and fun! 💡

Students built unique LEGO structures and then wrote detailed procedures explaining how to recreate them. The twist? They swapped instructions with another group and had to rebuild only using the written steps! 🧱✍️

This creative activity helped students see just how important clear, replicable procedures are in science experiments. It was a perfect blend of teamwork, critical thinking, and a whole lot of LEGO magic! 🧠✨

Swipe through the pics to see our future scientists in action! 📸👩‍🔬👨‍🔬

🎨📚 Big Hornet Shoutout! 🐝

Okay y’all… this is so cool we had to share! Two of our very own superstars—Ms. Perry (Art) and Ms. Miles (Journalism)—just got featured in Fresh Paint, the statewide magazine from the Florida Art Education Association! 🙌

Their collaborative project, Resiliency: Art & Literature, is a beautiful blend of student artwork and writing that truly shows off the heart, talent, and creativity of our kids. It’s not just a book—it’s a celebration of what happens when teachers go all in and students rise to the occasion.

We see Ms. Perry and Ms. Miles going above and beyond every single day, and now the entire state gets a glimpse of the magic they help create here in Nassau County. 💛🖌️📖

Take a minute to check it out and show them some love! 💬👏
