  • Safer Smarter Kids K-2

    Nassau County is offering a lesson from Lauren's Kid Cirriculum from the Lauren’s Kid curriculum to share with all of our students entitled, Safer, Smarter Kids! This lesson is designed to teach children:
    1. How to use a safety stop sign when a situation feels unsafe
    2. To always stay safe with a grown-up when out in public
    3. To respect personal space and respect other’s personal space
    4. How to tell a grown-up if a safety rule has been broken
    This lesson will be available on your child’s Classlink page on Friday, May 22nd at 2:00 and is entitled Safer Smarter Kids First Grade Lesson 1. It is our purpose to arm children with resources that will keep them safe at all times. Please take time to watch this video with your child. After watching the video here are some suggested activities as a follow up:
    o Explain to students that rules are important. Ask them to identify places that we have rules -school, home, and in our community.
    o Have students brainstorm personal safety rules that help keep them safe.
    o Brainstorm with students about grown-up buddies they could include in their Trusted Triangle. Explain that these are adults who make them feel safe to go to any time they feel scared or confused.

    Please watch this with your child and help them become aware of the importance of only relying on their trusted adult when it comes to taking medication.

  • Safer Smarter Kids 3-5

    We are providing a lesson, from the Lauren’s Kid curriculum, to share with all of our students entitled, Safer, Smarter Kids! This lesson is designed to teach children about safety in the community and the attributes of good citizens.
    Community is defined in this lesson as being made up of all the people who live in your area. Members of your community include you and your family, your neighbors, and all of the people at school. The lesson discusses the fact that communities are made up of people students know and people they don’t know. A good citizen is explained as someone who cares about others, follows rules, and tries to help make the world a better place.
    This lesson will be available on your child’s Classlink page on Friday, May 22nd at 2:00 and is entitled Safer Smarter Kids Third Grade Lesson 1. It is our purpose to arm children with resources that will keep them safe at all times. Please take time to watch this video with your child.
