The Title 1 program in Nassau County has one goal: To improve the teaching and learning of children in high-poverty schools. To accomplish this goal, Title 1 supports school instructional activities and programs that are designed, implemented and evaluated by those constituencies at the school level.
The design of each program:
- is to assist children in meeting the state's challenging academic standards expected of all children
- utilizes effective methods and instructional strategies that are based upon scientifcally based research that strengthens the core academic program
- gives primary consideration to providing extended learning time
- helps to provided accelerated, high quality curriculum
- minimizes removing children from the regular classroom
- ensures support and coordination with the regular classroom teacher
- provides strategies to increase meaningful parental involvment opportunities
- provides integration activities for staff development
