Mrs. Hilda Alderman
Mrs. Alderman began her career in Nassau County Public Schools in 1971 at Hilliard High School. She transferred to West Nassau in 1972 as a Physical Education and Science teacher. During that era, all female sports were cut. Mrs. Alderman started sports back for female athletes. She coached basketball and started the girls volleyball program. Her volleyball team won districts and also won sectionals in 1997. She eventually went on to coach track and softball during her 26 years of coaching at West Nassau. In 2000, she took the girls track team to state. In total, she taught at West Nassau for 33 years. She has since spent her time in several capacities mentoring youth and serving her community. In fact, she can still be found in the halls of West Nassau high school as a substitute teacher.

Mr. Johnnie Green
Coach Green taught at West Nassau from 1979 until he retired in 2010. Prior to his teaching career, he served in the Vietnam War, and has an honorable discharge for the United States Air Force. He was the first African American athletic director in Nassau County and held the position for 14 years. Under his leadership, West Nassau added both boys and girls soccer, and also swimming. In addition, he established the Male and Female athlete of the year awards. His coaching resume includes 20 years of basketball, 15 years of football, 15 years of track, 5 years of baseball, and 1 year of golf. In 1998, he was voted teacher of the year as a math teacher. He has also been a pastor at St. James Baptist Church for 13 years and President of the Pine Forest High School Alumni. Coach Green can also still be found in the halls of West Nassau as he now serves as the West Nassau coordinator for our Take Stock in Youth Program.

Mr. Howard Kendrick
Howard is a 2001 graduate of West Nassau High School. He was Nassau County player of the Year and moved onto St Johns Community College where he became an All-American. In 2002, he was taken in the 10th round in the MLB draft. In 2006, Howard made his major league debut with the Angels. In 2011, Howard was chosen as an alternate for the All-star game. His most notable accomplishments came in 2019 with the Washington Nationals. He became the NLCS MVP and went on to help his team win the 2019 World Series. Also in 2019, the MLB Players Alumni Association announced Howard the a winner for its annual Heart and Hustle Award. The award is given to the player who “best embodies the values, spirits and traditions of baseball.”

Mr. Don Reynolds
Mr. Don Reynolds attended Jacksonville University as a Music Education major. He worked in Nassau County for 35 years. He directed a superior ranked band for 21 straight years in a row, and 28 years overall. He was the FBA chairman and adjudicator for the state of Florida. He has received the Otto. J. Kraushaar award for 2 perfect seasons at the district and state level. Away from West Nassau, he was the lead trumpet in the First Coast Wind Ensemble and the Jacksonville Symphony. He also served as the chairman of the Florida Bandmaster Association and received the lifetime achievement award from the FBA. Mr. Reynolds was a teacher to the lucky ones, mentor to many, and a friend to all.

Mr. Jim Stearn
Coach Stearn was a veteran of the Korean War with the United States Air Force. He spent 24 years as an educator and 10 years at West Nassau. During his time at West Nassau, he served as the Athletic Director, Head Football Coach, Head Baseball Coach, Dean of Students, Social Studies Teacher, and Physical Education Teacher. As head football coach, he won the Callahan High School and West Nassau Football Conference Championship in 1966 and 1970. He was also named the Football Coach of the Year for 1966 and 1970. In 1966, his baseball team was the Callahan High School Baseball Conference Champions and made the Final 4 state tournament. In both 1966 and 1978, he was named the baseball coach of the year. In 1978, his baseball team was the District 5 Championship. He is one of the most successful dual sport coaches in West Nassau history.
