  • The Nassau County School District will continuously accept applications for all classifications of substitute employees.  Each classification of substitute has its own defined process as outlined below.  Once all employment requirements have been met, the applicant will be submitted to the Nassau County School Board for approval.  Once approved, the substitute will be eligible to work within the district.

Substitute Teachers

  • If you are interested in Substitute Teaching, please complete an application online at Applicant Tracking.  Once you have successfully completed your online application, please contact any one of the Nassau County public schools and request a Recommendation Form to be completed by the Principal.  The Principal will review your online application and submit the necessary paperwork to the Personnel Department.  (We only need to receive one Recommendation Form. You will have the opportunity to set your work preferences to include any of our schools.) Upon receipt, the Personnel Department will complete the required pre-employment screenings.  After the initial clearances are obtained, you will be contacted by the Personnel Department via email to attend the next available Substitute Teacher Training class.  During the training class, you will complete all required employment paperwork and be provided with instructions regarding fingerprinting and any other requirements which must be met. The rate of pay for substitute teachers varies based upon on their highest level of education. 

    NOTE: The Substitute Teacher Training Class is mandatory and required by the State of Florida.  This requirement cannot be waived.

Substitute Paraprofessionals

  • If you are interested in becoming a Substitute Paraprofessional, please complete an application online at Applicant Tracking.  Once you have successfully completed your online application, please contact any one of the Nassau County public schools and request a Recommendation Form to be completed by the Principal.  The Principal will review your online application and submit the necessary paperwork to the Personnel Department.  (We only need to receive one Recommendation Form. You will have the opportunity to set your work preferences to include any of our schools.) Upon receipt, the Personnel Department will complete the required pre-employment screenings.  After the initial clearances are obtained, you will be contacted by the Personnel Department to complete all required employment paperwork and be provided with instructions regarding fingerprinting and any other requirements which must be met. Substitute Paraprofessionals are paid hourly at the current minimum wage. 

    NOTE: If you submit your application for both Substitute Teaching and Substitute Paraprofessional at the same time, the process defined for a Substitute Teacher will prevail.

Substitute Custodians

  • If you are interested in becoming a Substitute Custodian, please complete an application online at Applicant Tracking.  Once you have successfully completed your online application, please contact the Facilities Department to be scheduled for the next available AHERA Training Class.  The Facilities Department may be reached at (904) 225-0573. 

    Upon completion of the AHERA Training Class, please contact any one of the Nassau County public schools and request a Recommendation Form to be completed by the school Principal or Director of Facilities. The Principal or Director will review your online application and submit the necessary paperwork to the Personnel Department.  (We only need to receive one Recommendation Form. You will have the opportunity to set your work preferences to include any of our schools.) Upon receipt, you will be contacted by Personnel to complete the required employment paperwork and with instructions regarding fingerprinting and any other requirements which must be met. Substitute custodians are paid hourly at the current minimum wage. 

Substitute Food Service Workers

  • If you are interested in becoming a Substitute Food Service Worker, please complete an application online at Applicant Tracking.  Once you have successfully completed your online application, please contact the Food and Nutrition Services Department to be provided with information regarding fingerprinting and the training class.  The Food and Nutrition Services Department may be reached at (904) 491-9924. 

    The Personnel Department will then provide you with the required employment paperwork and any other requirements which must be met.
