Sample Letters
Linked below are templates for resignations and retirements. Please be certain that your letter is signed, dated correctly and addressed to your administrator. Timely submission of resignation/retirement letters is an integral part of the effective staffing of schools and supporting departments.

Sick Leave Payouts
Board policy, NTA and NESPA Contracts outline the parameters for the payout of accrued sick leave. Sick leave payouts exceeding $2,000 will be sent to BENCOR. Please see the Retirement page for additional information regarding BENCOR. Sick leave payouts are processed after the annual contract has been paid in full.
Retirements under the NTA & NESPA Contracts:
Sick leave will automatically be paid out at the following percentages, based upon years of service in the Nassau County School District, at the current daily rate of pay:
Years 1-3 35%
Years 4-6 40%
Years 7-9 45%
Years 10-12 50%
Years 13+ 100%
Resignations under the NTA Contract:
Automatic payout of up to five (5) days.
Excess sick leave days may be transferred to another Florida Public School District. Please see the Employment Verifications page for the Request to Transfer Sick Leave form.
Resignations under the NESPA Contract:
There are no provisions in the NESPA Contract for the payout of sick leave for resignations.

Separations for Support Staff (employees not covered by a bargaining agreement)
Sick leave will automatically be paid out at the following percentages, based upon years of service in the Nassau County School District, at the current daily rate of pay for all Support Staff separations:
Years 1-3 35%
Years 4-6 40%
Years 7-9 45%
Years 10-12 50%
Years 13+ 100%

Vacation Payouts
This only applies to employees working a 12-month schedule who are eligible for vacation leave. Accrued time earned in the current year for use in the following year will automatically be paid out following separation once the annual contract has been paid in full. If you separate employment prior to the end of the fiscal year and have not exhausted your vacation leave, any remaining time for the current school will automatically be paid out.

Insurance Coverage
Any benefits which you have elected through the Nassau County School District will be cancelled and you will be extended offers of COBRA through the respective insurance carriers, or in some instances, through the NCSD. Some benefit carriers will contact you directly to continue your coverage.

Address Changes & Updates
It is highly important that you maintain a current mailing address with the Nassau County School District. Employees that are no longer active may contact the Human Resources Department directly at (904) 491-9874 to update their address. Maintaining a current mailing address will assist in the delivery of your Form W2 for tax purposes, keep insurance carriers up to date and ensure that any follow-up mailings are routed correctly for you.

Exit Interview Questionnaire
Please complete the exit interview form linked below and submit to the Human Resources Department, within 10 days of receipt, bycounty mail, hand delivery, fax, or U.S. Mail to the address above.
